The Mighty Indian Pacific

IP heading through Avon Valley next to Avon River

The Indian Pacific is not just a train, it’s a 4,352 kilometre, world-famous construction achievement linking Perth and Sydney, ocean to ocean.

Step onboard and you are suspended in time in a luxuriously appointed silver chariot while traversing a nation’s proud history and falling in love with its awe-inspiring landscape.

Depending on the season, you could glide through pockets of snow, and a desert bigger than most European countries. You pass through some of the biggest sheep stations in the world and past tiny pioneer towns.

The Indian Pacific travelling from the Flinders Ranges

You’ll love the famous green and gold of Australia’s wheat belts, spotting brumbies, kangaroos and emus through stunted mallee.

You feel like a pioneer, yet you indulge in opulent hospitality, exquisite dining, comfortable cabins and lively lounges while the Indian Pacific effortlessly climbs the rugged Blue Mountains and skirts the majestic Flinders Ranges rising from ancient rock-scarred land. It pushes aside colourful carpets of wildflowers that seem to spread forever.

Drink in hand you marvel at sunsets, spot flocks of thousands of corellas fossicking for seed, and find beauty in stark salt bush and red, sunparched sands.

You tick the bucket list as you ride the Nullarbor, beautiful in its raw starkness and home to the longest straight track in the world; 478 kilometres of steel ribbons that melt to one at the horizon.

During off train excursions you’ll venture further into Broken Hill, Adelaide, Cook and Rawlinna. Kalgoorlie also features on east bound journeys.

Is it any wonder the Indian Pacific is one of the truly great rail crossings in the world?
